About us

Hi everybody and Welcome! :) I am Ella the cook and photographer behind Home Cooking Adventure.

I started this blog/website in the spring of 2011 to share with you my passion for cooking through my little adventures in the kitchen. I find cooking relaxing, I love talking with friends and family about food and sharing recipes. I started to love cooking mostly because home cooked food is fresher, better and healthier. It seems that nowadays it has become a luxury few can afford. Our lives seem overwhelmingly busy and "fast-food" is a common term in this hectic world.

I discovered that I feel challenged by trying to make food from scratch, like learning to make bread without yeast, making my own pastry dough instead of buying, I discovered that I really enjoy working with flour therefore baking is one of my favorite parts of cooking.

I believe that cooking is for everybody. It might take time but it is an adventure, a wild ride, a rewarding and delightful experience that will soon turn into a captivating pleasure.

I have the luck of having the full support of my husband who created the whole interface of this site and is still supporting me in developing it. He also is the person behind the video camera and helped me make the recipe videos.

In my private life am the happy mother of two delicious girls, one of two and a half years old and the other one of 9 months. By the time I started I knew almost nothing about blogging and I still consider I have a lot to learn. If I would have known how much work it is need to develop a recipe site I would have probably postponed this but I am glad I didn't. Don't know about others but personally I find it very hard to find time for working between the time I spend with the two little girls and household.

This blog was meant from the beginning as a possibility to share good and as much as possible healthy recipes and good information related to food. It's not a blog about my personal life, I like to restrict my posts specific to that recipe story. English is not my native language, so be indulgent with me if any errors occur. I would appreciate if you notice any mistake to just let me know:).

Regarding the photography, I have to admit it's something I have discovered only after I started this blog. I still consider it the most difficult part of this website. My first recipes photos are far from what I tend to but I think I have evolved on this chapter and still have a lot to learn. I am using a Canon EOS 7D camera and Canon 50mm f/1.4 and Canon EF100mm f/2.8L macro lenses. For editing I am using Photoshop CS5.

All in all, Home Cooking Adventure is about the passion me and my husband share for excellent flavours, freshly pounded spices, decadent sweets and savory dishes. We want to introduce new creative ways to cook and show how you can have a blast in the kitchen. Hope you will enjoy these recipes as much as we do.

Keep on cooking!

FABULOUS!! thank you for starting this! I love cooking, baking and learning new recipes all the time. I have a severe food allergy to all things SOY, intolerant to dairy, gluten and sugar. This has made for a very interesting journey and I am happy to read up on how to make usual food exciting!

Love your recipes and yummy pictures! Being a working mother of two years old and four months daughter and an eigth months boy give me less time to cook. I really need to make delicious healthy food in short time, of course with simpler steps. Cooking and serving the same simple menus makes me feel bad. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful variety healthy recipes. I love your potato recipes! (^_^)

Hi Ella After going through all the videos posted on your website and getting excited to try all of them at one i think you and your husband deserve alot of appreciation. I have recently come across your website and really looking forward to try out your recipes. More importantly i love your prompt responses and help :) I recently got married and have been exposed to kitchen :P not complaining as i am loving this experience and want to thank you for being such a wonderful help for ppl like me. Love the calories check at the end of the recipe :) Would appreciate if you could also give some suggestions of likely substitutes we can use if the items mentioned in your recipe arent available and (if if if you have some time) would be great if you can write an article on typical errors while baking and explain the ways of doing it right. ( i know i am being overly demanding hehe :) Good luck for all your endeavors lots of love for your little angels :)

Thank you Adeeha for your nice words :) I hope I will have some time in doing these articles you are mentioning, which are quite good ideas, the substitutes article seems  easier than the other, as baking is so large that it will be quite hard, but will think of this as well. Meanwhile feel free to ask me any questions you have.

Hi Ella; greetings from Chile. WoW, what a great website to learn delicious dishes. personally, i will try the next week to make the Nutella Cheesecake for my litlle sister as a present for her birthday. Its seems to be easy by watching you how to prepare it (what i´m trying to say is "it looks easier than it really does). Nevertheless, i will tell you with the result of the cheesecake. Any idea how to prepare a "Happy birthday" on the top of the cheesecake? thanks for everything and keep going with the cooking and recipes!

Hi Diego, nice to meet you :) The recipe is easy, just use proper cream cheese (not Mascarpone) and cold heavy/whipping cream. Mix the cream cheese with the cream until you feel the cream has whipped a bit, as this is really important, this is the key to creating the two different layers. You can always write Happy Birthday with a cake decorating white pencil or as one of my followers did and sent me a photo, she decorated the cheesecake with oreo cookies on top and wrote Happy Birthday on them. I will send you a photo to see.

Hi Adeeha.. nice to hear from you again.. It's true I don't have too many popsicle recipes except this one with nectarines.. http://www.homecookingadventure.com/recipes/nectarine-yogurt-popsicles, (fruits can always change) . I always make some  for my daughters.. their favorite is the combination between strawberry, bananas, honey and yogurt.  It's that simple. I will try postin some soon.

As for the drinks.. all the summer drinks I have posted can be easily made without alcohol.. the alcohol is always optional. I will try to add some new drink as well whenever I will get the chance.

Hi Ella! I just wanted to let you know how my life had changed since I started watching your video recipes. To be honest I'm 20 years old and I'm studying at the university, but I wasn't happy with my career, that was not what I wanted, and actually I didn't know at that time either. I found some passion doing desserts, and like art of magic I find myself watching one of your videos, (I think that was destiny haha). Whatever, thank you for that, cause' was sort of inspiration for me :') I tried with Nutella cheescake first, I was delicious! Now I know how to combine my career with something I just figure out I love! I'm from Peru, so my english isn't good enough, sorry. God bless you, and keep doing what you love so I do :D

I am so glad Ariana you found inspiration in my work..  As you, I've started in a totally different direction.. I made Economics University, worked a while in this area and then gained a bit of experience in web design and only after that I've started working in this direction.. and there are already 5 years since then and couldn't be more happy:) Hope you will find your way as well and do what you like best

Wow! This site is amazing! I just found it and I am really happy that I did. Everything is perfect: the name, the interface, everything is so organised and nicely arranged. I just looked over the main dish recipes and I am surprised that I like them all (not the fish ones, I don't like fish:) ) and I plan to try them all and I think a lot of them I will cook regularly. I also admire the way the recipes are shown, the photos are really good, the videos, also the explanations are great and very practical, and I appreciate that I can print the recipes. Really cool! I can't wait to discover the rest of the site and, obviously, to try the recipes! Thank you and congratulations for this site! I searched a good cooking site like this since a long time ago. God bless you!

I recently chanced upon your youtube videos and I couldn't believe how elegant, neat and outstanding your videos, creations and every aspect of your presentation are. I compared your video of chocolate eclairs with other youtube videos and there was such a stark difference between yours and the others! I actually told myself that the owner of these videos must be a trained chef and likely to be as elegant as her creations! I think I am correct here! Anyway, I just want to congratulate you on your wonderful site. Please continue baking and teaching us to be as elegant and creative with our bakes and cooking! Thank you.

You're doing a great job; just as good a one as a professional chef (I was a baker) would do; please keep up the fantastic work! The videos are amazing and I love the variety of music you play with each recipe. All in all I am incredibly impressed with your videos, recipes and website and plan to start making your recipes at home this weekend. All the best!
