Homemade Nutella-Chocolate Hazelnut Spread

I’ve always been curious about making homemade Nutella, creating my own chocolate hazelnut spread, and finally, here it is. Making it at home allows me to control the sugar content and the amount of hazelnuts, which is crucial since my kids adore it and I prefer to provide them with a healthier spread than store-bought versions.

This homemade Nutella offers a more intense flavor, and I dare say it’s tastier, healthier, and absolutely delicious. Pairing it with homemade bread enhances the experience even further.

The rich combination of roasted hazelnuts, chocolate and high-quality cocoa creates a velvety smooth texture that melts in your mouth. Spread it generously on warm toast or use it as a dip for fresh fruit—it’s a versatile treat that satisfies any chocolate craving.

Making Nutella at home is a rewarding experience. You can customize the sweetness, add dates or honey instead of sugar and adjust the consistency to suit your preferences. Plus, knowing exactly what goes into each jar gives peace of mind, ensuring a healthy treat for the whole family to enjoy.

How to make homemade Nutella

Process toasted hazelnuts in a food processor for about 5 minutes until you achieve a smooth, butter-like texture.

Meanwhile, melt chocolate over a bain-marie until smooth. Add the melted chocolate, sugar, cocoa powder, oil, and vanilla extract to the hazelnuts in the food processor. Process until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Transfer the spread into a small saucepan and cook over very low heat (around 50°C) for 5 minutes. This step helps to meld the flavors and ensure a smooth consistency.

Once done, place the finished hazelnut chocolate spread into an airtight container. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. Remember to stir before serving to ensure a creamy texture.
