These Cottage Cheese Blueberry Buns are soft, lightly sweet, and incredibly easy to make. Made with cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, eggs, and a little honey, they’re a protein-rich breakfast or snack and a wholesome alternative to traditional sweet yeast buns.
The best part? There’s no yeast and no rising time. Simply mix the ingredients, shape the buns, add a little Greek yogurt and honey on top, and finish with fresh blueberries. They’re ready for the oven in just a few minutes.
I love these blueberry buns for breakfast or as a quick afternoon snack with a cup of coffee or tea. They have a tender, slightly chewy texture from the cottage cheese, while the blueberries add little bursts of juicy sweetness in every bite.
If you love my classic Blueberry Cream Cheese Buns but want something quicker and lighter, these are a great alternative. They have a similar blueberry-topped look, but the dough comes together much faster and doesn’t require yeast or a long rise.
Why You’ll Love These Cottage Cheese Blueberry Buns
- Quick and easy – The dough comes together in one bowl with no complicated steps.
- No yeast – No kneading, proofing, or waiting for the dough to rise.
- Made with cottage cheese and Greek yogurt – These ingredients add moisture, tenderness, and protein to the buns.
- Naturally sweetened – A little honey provides just enough sweetness without using refined sugar.
- Perfect for breakfast – They make an easy homemade breakfast or snack when you want something sweet but not overly rich.
- Fresh and fruity – Juicy blueberries add natural sweetness and flavor to every bite.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Cottage cheese – The main ingredient in these buns, adding moisture, tenderness, and protein. For the smoothest texture, blend the cottage cheese before using.
- Eggs – Help bind the ingredients together and give the buns structure.
- Vanilla extract – Adds a warm, sweet flavor that pairs beautifully with blueberries.
- Honey – Naturally sweetens the dough without using refined sugar.
- All-purpose flour – Provides the structure needed to shape the buns while keeping them tender.
- Semolina – A small amount adds texture and helps give the buns a slightly more substantial bite.
- Baking powder – Since these are no-yeast buns, baking powder provides the lift they need in the oven.
- Salt – Balances the sweetness and brings out the flavor of the cottage cheese and blueberries.
- Greek yogurt – Mixed with a little honey, it creates a creamy topping for the center of each bun.
- Blueberries – Fresh blueberries are perfect here, adding juicy bursts of sweetness as they bake.

How to Make Cottage Cheese Blueberry Buns
These cottage cheese blueberry buns come together quickly and don’t require yeast, kneading, or rising time. The cottage cheese is blended until smooth, then mixed with eggs, honey, and vanilla before the dry ingredients are added. The soft dough is scooped directly onto a lined baking sheet, so there’s no need to roll or shape it by hand.
Once the buns are formed, simply make a small well in the center of each one and fill it with a creamy mixture of Greek yogurt and honey. A handful of fresh blueberries on top is all they need before going into the oven. After about 30 minutes, you’ll have soft, golden buns with a creamy center and juicy blueberries throughout.
They are best served slightly warm or at room temperature and make a delicious quick breakfast, snack, or light dessert.
Tips to get the best buns
- Blend the cottage cheese well. This gives the buns a smoother texture and helps incorporate the cottage cheese evenly into the dough. If you don’t mind a little texture, you can also use it without blending.
- Don’t add extra flour. The dough is meant to be soft and sticky. Instead of trying to shape it with your hands, use a spoon to scoop it directly onto the baking sheet.
- Leave enough space between the buns. The mixture will spread slightly as it bakes, so leave a couple of inches between each bun.
- Make the wells gently. Use the back of a spoon to create a shallow well in the center, being careful not to press all the way through the dough.
- Use thick Greek yogurt. A thick yogurt works best for the creamy topping and is less likely to spread too much while baking.
- Fresh or frozen blueberries work. If using frozen blueberries, add them directly from the freezer without thawing to prevent excess moisture.
- Let them cool slightly before serving. The yogurt center will be very hot straight from the oven and will firm up a little as the buns cool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use cottage cheese without blending it?
Yes. Blending gives the buns a smoother, more uniform texture, but you can leave the cottage cheese as it is if you don’t mind small curds in the finished buns.
Can I use frozen blueberries?
Yes. Frozen blueberries can be used without thawing. Keep in mind that they may release a little more juice while baking.
Can I use another type of yogurt?
Greek yogurt works best because it is thick and creamy. If your yogurt is thinner, you may need to use a little less so it stays in the center of the buns.
Can I make these buns without honey?
Yes, but honey adds sweetness and moisture to both the dough and the yogurt topping. You can adjust the amount to taste or use another liquid sweetener.
Can I make the buns with another fruit?
Absolutely. Raspberries, blackberries, chopped strawberries, or small pieces of peach would all work well. Choose fruit that isn’t overly watery.
Why is my dough sticky?
This is normal. Cottage cheese add moisture to the mixture, so the dough will be softer and stickier than traditional bread dough. Scoop it onto the baking sheet rather than trying to knead or roll it.
How should I store cottage cheese blueberry buns?
Because they contain cottage cheese and yogurt, store the cooled buns in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They are best enjoyed within 2–3 days. Let them come closer to room temperature before serving, or warm them briefly if you prefer.
Can I freeze them?
Yes. Let the buns cool completely, then freeze them in an airtight container or freezer bag. Thaw them in the refrigerator and gently warm them before serving.
