Parmesan Crisps with Marinara Sauce

Parmesan Crisps are a quick appetizer idea that is so easy to prepare that you can hardly call it a recipe. With just a few ingredients you can have a low-carb appetizer that everybody will enjoy.

Parmesan Crisps can be served either with various cream soups or simply as a substitute for potato chips. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!

How to make Parmesan Crisps

Begin by preheating the oven to 400F (200C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

Next, take heaping tablespoons of Parmesan cheese and place them on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are at least 1 inch (3cm) apart. Flatten them slightly with your fingers. Sprinkle freshly ground black pepper and dried oregano on top of each cheese mound.

Bake the Parmesan cheese for about 6-8 minutes until they turn golden and crisp.

Once baked, allow the Parmesan crisps to cool completely.

How to make Marinara sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat oil over medium-low heat. Add garlic and cook for a few seconds, then stir in the diced tomatoes. Add sugar, basil, oregano, bay leaf, and pepper flakes if using. Season with salt and pepper.

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 20-25 minutes until it slightly reduces and thickens.

Once the marinara sauce is done, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly before serving.

You can store the marinara sauce refrigerated for up to a week or freeze it until ready to use.

Can this be served cold – if I prepare it five hours before the lunch and then serve it as an appetizer? What sauce will also go with it?
