This Cherry Tomato Pasta is an easy, reliable meal I make when I want something fresh, simple, and full of flavor with minimal effort. It starts with sweet cherry tomatoes slowly cooking on the stovetop until they burst and turn into a light, juicy sauce with garlic and olive oil. The smell alone is enough to make you want to grab a fork right away.
I like using a generous amount of tomatoes because they really make the dish. As they soften, they release all their juices and create a naturally silky sauce that coats every strand of pasta beautifully. A pinch of chili flakes adds just a gentle warmth, and fresh basil brings that final burst of freshness at the end.
What I love most about this recipe is how unfussy it is. There’s no need for cream or complicated steps, just good ingredients cooked in the simplest way. It’s the kind of pasta you can make on a busy weeknight, but it still feels comforting and a little special when you sit down to eat it.
A little Parmesan melts into the sauce, tying everything together. It is simple, cozy, and full of summer flavor in every bite.
How to make cherry tomato pasta
Begin with bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta until al dente, then reserve about 1 cup of the pasta water before draining.
In a wide pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and chili flakes, cooking gently for 30–60 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
Add the cherry tomatoes, a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. Let them cook undisturbed for a few minutes, then stir occasionally.
After about 5–8 minutes, the tomatoes will soften and begin to burst. Lightly press some with a spoon to release their juices and help create a chunky, saucy consistency. Let the sauce simmer until it thickens slightly.
Add the drained pasta directly into the pan. Pour in a splash of reserved pasta water and toss well until the sauce becomes glossy and emulsified, coating every strand.
Stir in Parmesan and torn fresh basil. Toss again until everything is well combined.
Serve immediately and enjoy a simple yet vibrant pasta dish where sweet tomatoes, garlic, and basil come together in a fresh, comforting sauce.
