Quick and easy recipe for one of the most savory muffins, fluffy, cheesy in the inside, with a great crispy top, makes them perfect near a good fresh salad or soup. 
You can add some herbs, onion or bacon if you prefer and serve them warm for breakfast or simply take them with you if you are in a rush. These cheese muffins are also perfect for a picnic treat in the summer days.
As this recipe for cheese muffins is so easy to put together kids can be involved in the process of making, they love them too and make a good alternative to their lunch boxes.

  • Makes 12 muffins
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups (200g) grated cheese (cheddar is good)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 g) yogurt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup (60g) butter, melted
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Paprika and grated cheese to sprinkle on top
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Butter and dust with flour a muffin tray or line with paper cups.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients, flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
  3. Stir in the cheese and black pepper.
  4. In another bowl mix the yogurt with milk, egg and melted butter.
  5. Fold the liquid into the flour mixture.
  6. Spoon mixture into the muffin cups. Sprinkle paprika and grated cheese on tops.
  7. Bake for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Yum, love cheesy dishes, and my kids would love this if I pack in their lunch/snack for school! Much better alternatives than sugary ones for snack time. :)

I made these last night for a school bake sale. They taste amazing and look just like the picture but unfortunately I used paper muffin cups to line the muffin tray (usually I don't use them but I wanted to make them look more appealing for the bake sale) and unfortunately the cups stuck to the muffins. I'm not sure why - they have plenty of fat in them and I waited till they were cooled. Anyway, just a word of warning if you're planning to use paper cups - DON'T!

Thank you Holy for your comment. I am glad you like these muffins and I am sorry they stuck to muffins paper cups. I rarely use paper cups but I am glad you warned us about this :) this cheese batter is very delicate and as the cheese melts while in the oven it probably sticks to paper cups. Sometimes the old methods are better.. like dusting the muffin tray before adding the batter :)

I made these today...Everyone at my place even my in laws loved it..I topped it off with cheese,paprika n green n black olives..looked like a beauty on my tea table..thankyouu so much.. *Hugs*

Hi Ms, Thank you for your interesting blog. I have tried your Banana bread and it was great from my first time . Everyone likes it. It inspires me to try others of your recipes. And this one is my second choice. But I just wonder about the FLOUR you use. What kind of flour is it?

I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe.. hope you will try some other recipes too.. I usually use all purpose flour for cakes (type 480 or type 550) For bread I use bread flour (type 650)

Hello Ms, This looks amazing. I am planning to try this today. Just wanted to know if there is any alternative / substitute for an egg as I am a vegetarian.

Maybe they will turn just fine if you don't add the egg at all.. and if necessary reduce the amount of flour

I found this.. maybe it will help you: To replace 1 egg: 2 tablespoon flour + 1/2 teaspoon oil + 1/2 teaspoon baking powder + 2 tablespoons liquid (milk, cream, buttermilk, diluted yogurt, or dairy free alternatives like coconut milk, soy milk, etc) beaten together until smooth.
