These homemade breadsticks are a classic snack that is perfect for any occasion. Made with simple ingredients like bread flour, olive oil, and a variety of herbs and spices, these delicious treats are easy to make and sure to please.
How to make homemade breadsticks
To start, prepare the dough. For this recipe I like to use bread flour but all-purpose flour works as well if that is what you have on hand.
Start by combining yeast, sugar, and lukewarm water in a medium bowl, letting it rest for 5 minutes to activate the yeast. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt, and then add water, dissolved yeast, and olive oil. Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until smooth and transfer to an oiled bowl. Cover and let rest at room temperature for about an hour until doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, on a floured surface roll out the dough into a rectangular shape and cut in half lengthwise. Then, cut each half into 1-inch strips. Twist each strip of dough and place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rest for 20-30 minutes more. Meanwhile, preheat the oven.
Next, brush the breadsticks with a mixture of olive oil, salt, oregano, parsley, and garlic powder. This combination of flavors adds depth and complexity to the breadsticks, making them a truly delicious treat. Once the breadsticks are coated in the herb and spice mixture, they are ready to be baked in the oven.
After baking for 12-13 minutes, the breadsticks emerge from the oven golden brown and fragrant. The aroma of freshly baked bread mixed with the delicious scent of herbs and spices is sure to make your mouth water.
These homemade breadsticks are a simple and satisfying snack that you can easily customize to suit your taste preferences. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of patience, you can create a delicious and nutritious treat that is perfect for any occasion. Hope you will try them out.
