These Baked Parmesan Sweet Potato Fries are a delightful and nutritious twist on the classic potato fry. These crispy and flavorful fries offer a healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried options, while still satisfying your craving for a delicious side dish. Bursting with the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes and enhanced by the savory goodness of Parmesan cheese, these fries are a taste sensation that will leave you coming back for more.
To ensure that your sweet potato fries turn out perfectly crispy and delicious, it’s crucial to cut them evenly into sticks that are about ¼ inch thick. This uniformity allows for even cooking and ensures that each fry has a delightful crunch. If the fries are cut too thick, they may not achieve that desired crispiness.
To take the crispiness factor to the next level, consider using a coating of cornstarch. The cornstarch acts as a moisture absorber, helping to create a satisfyingly crispy crust while keeping the interior of the fries soft and tender. This technique is a game-changer when it comes to achieving that perfect balance of texture in your sweet potato fries.
Once the fries are baked to golden perfection, you can elevate their taste even further by sprinkling extra Parmesan cheese on top. The sharp and savory flavor of the Parmesan beautifully complements the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes, creating a delightful symphony of flavors. And of course, don’t forget to serve them with your favorite dipping sauce for an extra burst of taste and enjoyment.
How to make Baked Parmesan Sweet Potato Fries
Start by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Next, peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into uniform ¼-inch (6mm) slices. Take each slice and further cut them into ¼-inch (6mm) sticks, creating long and slender fries. Transfer the sweet potato sticks into a large bowl.
In the same bowl, add cornstarch, garlic, basil, cumin, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese. Toss the ingredients together, ensuring that each sweet potato stick is coated evenly with the flavorful mixture. Then, drizzle oil over the coated sticks and toss once more, ensuring all the fries are well coated in the mixture.
Spread the coated sweet potato sticks in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets, allowing ample space between each fry for even cooking. Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the fries turn a delicious golden brown and achieve a satisfying level of crispiness. After the first 15 minutes of baking, use a spatula to flip the fries, promoting even browning on both sides. If you’re baking both sheets at the same time, it’s advisable to rotate their positions after the first 15 minutes.
Once the Baked Parmesan Sweet Potato Fries have reached their desired level of crispiness, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. For an extra burst of flavor, sprinkle additional Parmesan cheese over the fries, adding a cheesy and savory touch.
How to prepare the sour cream dipping sauce
While the fries are baking, you can prepare a delightful dipping sauce. In a small bowl, combine sour cream with mustard and chili sauce, stirring until well mixed. This tangy and spicy sauce pairs perfectly with the sweet and savory flavors of the fries.
Serve the warm and crispy Baked Parmesan Sweet Potato Fries, either on their own or with the prepared sour cream dipping sauce on the side. If desired, you can sprinkle extra Parmesan cheese for an added burst of cheesiness. These fries are sure to impress with their delightful texture, incredible flavors, and the guilt-free indulgence they offer.
